The Role of Troponin in Skeletal Muscle Contraction

Number of Pages 8

This 8 page paper discusses the function and structure of the regulatory substance known as Troponin C. There are several variants of Troponin and each serves a specific function. Troponin C interacts directly with the calcium ions that cause skeletal muscle contraction. The next target of Troponin C is Troponin I, while Troponin T is an inhibitor. If Troponin T did not inhibit continued contraction, the muscle that had been contracted would be unable to cease contracting. The writer also reviews current research in the field. There are 13 sources in the bibliography.
